Schaumburg

Schaumburg is a truly great suburb to get to know. Schaumburg is a fairly large city that is filled to the brim with commercial businesses, shopping centers, restaurants, recreation areas, schools, and most importantly your new home.

Schaumburg is a unique city in Illinois because it is apart of two different counties. It resides in both Cook County and DuPage County. Schaumburg is about 28 miles from downtown Chicago and around 10 miles from O’Hare airport.  This city is so nice that Money Magazine ranked Schaumburg the best place to live in Illinois and the 9th best place to live in the U.S. Schaumburg proudly houses the Woodfield Mall and has one of the two IKEAs in Illinois.

Schaumburg is also surrounded by several nice suburbs like; Hoffman Estates, Roselle, Palatine, and Rolling Meadows,

Schaumburg has a station on Metra’s Milwaukee District/West Line, which goes between Elgin and Chicago Union Station. The Suburban Transit Access Route (STAR Line) originally planned to have two stations at the IKEA department store and on Roselle Road near the north of the village, but those plans have been shelved by Metra in 2012. The only current station is near Boomers Stadium. Additionally, the Schaumburg Regional Airport, a small general aviation airport, is located along Irving Park Road just west of Roselle Road. Pace offers a dial-a-ride bus service that is open to the general public. Reservations must be made a minimum of 90 minutes in advance.

There were 31,539 households out of which 28.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.8% were headed by married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.6% were non-families. 32.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 9.3% were someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.34, and the average family size was 3.02.

In the village, the population was spread out with 20.4% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 32.3% from 25 to 44, 27.5% from 45 to 64, and 12.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37.8 years. For every 100 females, there were 93.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.3 males.

In 2011 the estimated median income for a household in the village was $66,553, and the median income for a family was $84,931. Male full-time workers had a median income of $60,414 versus $42,067 for females. The per capita income for the village was $31,586. About 5.2% of families and 8.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.1% of those under age 18 and 4.9% of those age 65 or over.

In 2011, 19.8% of Schaumburg’s residents were Asian, making it the Chicago suburb with the fifth highest percentage of Asians. From 2001 to 2011 the Asian population in Schaumburg increased by 37.1%.
